Boiler Repair Service in Utah

I remember this one time, it was like January in Salt Lake City. The inversion was real bad that week, just that gray fog hanging over everything. My buddy Mike calls me up at like 2 AM. He sounds freaked out. He says, "Man, my house is freezing. The kids are shivering. I think the boiler died."

I drove over there in the snow. I got to his place and his boiler was making this scary banging noise. Like someone was hitting it with a hammer. Long story short, it was a simple fix, just a part that got clogged up. But seeing his family huddled in blankets really stuck with me. Thats why I do this. Nobody should have to be cold in their own house. If you live around here, you know Utah winters aint no joke. At Hollands Expert Services LLC, we get it. We are locals. We deal with the same snow and ice you do. We fix boilers so you dont have to worry.

Boiler Repair in Utah

When your heat goes out, it feels like an emergency. And it is. You dont want pipes freezing and bursting. That cost alot of money to fix. If you need boiler repair in utah, we are the guys to call.

You might have noticed its hard to find guys who really know boilers here. There just aren't alot of boiler repair in utah service providers. Most plumbers are scared of them. Boilers are complex systems. They aint like fixing a leaky sink. You gotta understand pressure and heat and gas flow all at once. Only a few companies in Utah actually know how to repair them right without messing it up.

Thats why we are lucky to have John. He is our master technician. John has years of experience. I swear, the guy can listen to a boiler and tell you what is wrong with it just by the hum. He is a wizard with this stuff. While other companies give up and tell you to buy a new one because they don't understand the system, John gets his tools and gets to work. He has seen every brand and every weird setup you can think of.

I walked into a basement in Sugar House once with John. The house was built in like 1920. Beautiful place. But the boiler looked like a steam engine from a old movie. It had rust everywhere. The homeowner told me another company said he needed a whole new system. John took a look. He poked around for a minute. He said, "It just needs a new pump." We changed it out in an hour. The heat came back on and the guy saved thousands of dollars.

We try to fix things first. We dont just try to sell you expensive stuff you dont need. If we can get your boiler running again, we will. We work on all kinds of boilers. Gas boilers, electric ones, the big old iron ones. It dont matter. If it heats water, John can fix it.

Boiler Leaking

Water on the floor is never a good sign. If you see a puddle around your boiler, you got a problem. A boiler leaking can happen for a bunch of reasons. Sometimes it is just a loose pipe. Other times, the tank inside might be cracked.

I remember a job up in Park City. Nice big cabin. The owner called and said he smelled something wet. I went down to the mechanical room. There was water spraying out of a valve. It was making a huge mess. It ruined some drywall too. If he had called me sooner, it would of been a smaller bill.

Water leaks can cause mold too. You dont want mold in your house. It is bad for your breathing. If you see drips, dont wait. Put a bucket under it if you have to, but call us right away. We will find where the leak is coming from. Sometimes it is hard to see. Water travels along pipes and drips somewhere else. But we know where to look. We check the seals. We check the pressure valve. We fix the leak so your basement stays dry.

Boiler Installation

Sometimes, a boiler is just too old. It is sad, but things break down. If your boiler is 20 years old, it might be time for a new one. Boiler installation is a big job. You need to make sure it is done right.

I talked to a lady in Sandy last week. She had a boiler from the 80s. Her gas bill was crazy high every month. She was scared to buy a new one because of the price. I showed her the math. A new high-efficiency boiler uses way less gas. It pays for itself after a few years. She got a new one put in. She called me yesterday to say her house feels warmer and her bill is lower. She was super happy.

When we install a boiler, we take our time. We measure everything. We make sure the gas lines are safe. We check the venting so you dont get carbon monoxide in the house. That is super important. We treat your house like it is our own. We dont leave a mess. We take the old heavy boiler away so you dont have to deal with it.

Boiler Maintenance

You change the oil in your car, right? You gotta do the same for your boiler. Boiler maintenance is how you stop it from breaking on the coldest night of the year.

I have a routine I do. I go to houses in the fall, before the snow starts falling in the canyons. I clean out the burners. I check the water pressure. I make sure the thermostat is talking to the boiler correctly.

One time I was doing maintenance for a guy in Draper. I found a tiny crack in a heat exchanger. It wasn’t leaking yet. But if I didn’t find it, it would have broke in the middle of winter. His whole system would have shut down. Because we caught it early, we ordered the part and fixed it on a sunny Tuesday. No emergency. No freezing family.

Maintenance saves you money. A clean boiler burns less gas. It lasts longer too. You dont want to buy a new boiler if you dont have to. Let us come look at it once a year. It is worth it.

Radiator & Central Heating Issues

Sometimes the boiler is working fine, but the house is still cold. Or maybe one room is hot and the other is freezing. That is usually a problem with the radiators or the pipes. Radiator & Central Heating Issues can be tricky.

My grandmas house in Ogden had those big cast iron radiators. I used to dry my mittens on them. One winter, the living room radiator stayed cold. Stone cold. The boiler was running hot. My dad went over there. He found out there was air trapped in the radiator. Air blocks the hot water. He used a little key to open the valve. You could hear the air hissing out. Then water squirted out. After that, the radiator got hot again.

We do that all the time. We bleed radiators to get the air out. We also check the zone valves. Those are the things that tell the hot water where to go. If a valve gets stuck, the water cant get to the bedroom or the kitchen. We can unstick them or replace them. We balance the system so every room feels good. You shouldn’t have to wear a coat in your kitchen.

Common Boiler Fault Codes

Modern boilers are like computers. They have little screens on them. When something is wrong, they flash numbers or letters. These are Common Boiler Fault Codes. It is the boilers way of telling you what hurts.

It can be confusing though. One brand says “E1” means low pressure. Another brand says “E1” means the sensor is broke. You cant just guess.

Don’t drive yourself crazy trying to figure out the codes. Just call Hollands Expert Services LLC. We have the books for all the brands. We know what the blinking lights mean. Examples of stuff we see:

  • Low Pressure: usually means you need to add water to the loop.
  • Ignition Failure: the gas didn’t light. Could be a dirty sensor.
  • Overheat: the water got too hot and the safety switch turned it off.

We speak boiler language. We will figure it out fast.

Question for Boilers

This is called "kettling" usually. It sounds like a tea kettle but louder. It happens when minerals from the water build up inside the heat exchanger. The water gets trapped and boils into steam bubbles that pop. It is bad for the boiler. We can flush it out for you.

You really should do it once a year. The best time is in late summer or early fall. Get it ready before you actually need the heat.

If the pilot wont stay lit, it is usually the thermocouple. That is a little safety rod that senses the flame. If it gets dirty or bent, it shuts the gas off. We can clean it or put in a new one.

I think so. Boilers heat water. Furnaces heat air. Boiler heat feels more steady. It doesn't dry out the air as much. It is great for people with allergies because you aren't blowing dust around the house. Plus, warm floors (radiant heat) are the best thing ever on a cold morning.
